How to Increase Your Trade-In Value (Before You Visit the Dealership)
How to Increase Your Trade-In Value (Before You Visit the Dealership)

Thinking about trading in your current vehicle? A few small moves before you come in can help you feel more confident about your offer—and in some cases, can help you get more value.
Here’s a simple, no-pressure guide to getting your trade-in ready.
The big idea (in plain English)
Trade-in value is mostly based on: – Vehicle year, make, model, trim – Mileage – Condition (inside + out) – Accident history / title status – Market demand (what shoppers are looking for right now)
You can’t change everything—but you can control condition, presentation, and paperwork.

1) Clean it like you’re selling it to a friend
First impressions matter. – Remove all personal items (yes, check the glove box + trunk) – Quick vacuum + wipe-down of dash/doors – Wash the exterior (bonus points for cleaning wheels)
Pro tip: If you have pet hair or heavy odors, a quick detail can be worth it.
2) Fix the “cheap stuff” (skip the expensive stuff)
Small fixes can help your car show better without you overspending. – Replace burnt-out bulbs – Replace wiper blades if they’re streaky – Top off washer fluid – Replace missing floor mats (if yours are gone)
What to avoid: Major repairs you’re doing only to trade it in. If it needs big work, it’s usually better to disclose it and let us evaluate it honestly.
3) Gather your maintenance records (they help)
If you have them, bring: – Oil change history – Tire/brake service receipts – Any major repairs
Even a simple folder (or screenshots) can help support condition and care.
4) Bring all keys, fobs, and accessories
Missing items can affect value. – All key fobs – Wheel lock key (if applicable) – Cargo cover, third-row accessories, etc.
5) Be honest about wear—don’t stress it
Normal wear happens. The goal isn’t perfection—it’s clarity. – Small chips/scratches are common – Seat wear is normal – We’ll look at the whole picture (not just one ding)
6) Know what impacts value the most

If you’re wondering what really moves the needle, it’s usually: – Mileage vs age – Accident history – Tire/brake condition – Interior condition (stains, smoke odor, tears)
7) Get a trade estimate before you visit
If you’re early in the process, an online trade estimate can be a great starting point. – Helps you plan your budget – Makes your in-store visit faster – Lets you compare options with less pressure
